Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the skill differences between the national Greek volleyball team and the other national European volleyball teams. The sample involved the games of 6 European volleyball na- tional teams who participated in the European championships 2005. Data recording was carried out using the official software of CEV (Confédération Européenne de Volleyball), Data Volley 2 Professional. Further statistical processing was carried out using the SPSS 11.0 software. The Greek volleyball national team won the third place of the tournament. Statistical differences were observed in the variables failure in jumping serve, attack after recep- tion, and attack after dig between the Greek national team and the teams who won the tournament (Serbia- Montenegro, Spain). No statistical differences were observed in the other volleyball skills between the Greek na- tional team and the other teams. Based of the finding of the study the coaches of the Greek volleyball national team should focus on these skills due to the fact that the players seem to be weak in these factors, in order to im- prove the ability of their players with exercises relevant to these skills.
