The Department’s first Honorary Doctorate award and praise to two local hyper-athletes

Our Department awarded its first Honorary Doctorate to an eminent academic and honored two local hyper-athletes in a ceremony held on 22-3-2012 in Trikala. Specifically, Professor George D. Kitas of the Dudley Group of Hospitals, UK, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate for his scientific contribution in revealing the beneficial effects of physical exercise in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Following that, two local hyper-athletes, Mr Stelios Vaskos and Mr Georgios-Ioannis Tsianos, were praised for their achievements which incorporated strong messages of optimism and contribution (charity). The former cycled non-stop from Trikala to Istanbul and back (78 hours - 1660 km), while the later swam, also non-stop, the distance from Peloponnese to Crete (28 hours - 100 km)! The ceremony closed with an inspiring dance performance by a team of our students.
